Most of the time teak is planted as a seedling instead of cloning an existing plant. Although they take longer to grow, plants grown from seeds tend to be healthier and much easier to maintain.

It takes roughly three weeks for the teak seed to sprout in a greenhouse. When the sprout is 1-2 months old, it is planted outside. Teak needs a suitable tropical climate, good soil and correct maintenance. If these conditions are met, teak trees grow quickly, and supply very hard and steady wood. Still, growing teak is regarded as a long-term investment and takes at least 10-15 years to provide any benefits.
